therapy is fine. going to see a psych IS for white ppeole! lol. in my line of work we call them “paid friends.” they are useful for ppeole who have no support system and/or those who have been isolated. IF you are going to see one, i recommend shopping around. they are not all created equal. are you looking for someone to sort out your problems for you? or do you have goals in mind and want a little assistance in exploring your options, maybe being presented with things you haven’t considered and then logically coming to your own conclusions? psychologists often come with their own biases and agendas–healing old wounds through their profession while pretending to be objective. what i don’t like is black ppeole telling other black ppeole that they need to/ or should get counseling…because white ppeole do it, too. that answer isn’t good enough and i find it to be patronizing.the problem is when ppeole cannot, or rather do not step outside of their own box…their own comfort zone….when they are surrounded by like-minded ppeole who don’t think critically and can’t help them rationalize or offer alternative solutions. therapists often change ppeole’s frame of reference…for the bad. think, for example, the whole industry around “sex addition.” i mean, seriously, wtf is that?

Thank you Gry pl, for cemtonming. Do you mean by “all that seems to be developing in this area” the area of LGBT rights and literature? Which suggestion seems wrong to you? Again, if you can tell me where you think I wrong, unclear, or unjustified I can try to clarify. In truth, this is the only blog post which contains very little of my arguments or research, either about other topics or myself, and more of the research /literature by other scholars on a subject i care about but not a subject on which I have worked either in school or in work. I would love to know where you think I and they are wrong.
